Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, Texas: November 22, 2004 â Corpus Christi Rayz forward, Jason Baird has been named the CHL Oakley Player of the Week, the Central Hockey League office announced Monday afternoon. Baird had ten points (4G, 6A) in four games leading the Rayz to a perfect 4-0 record on the week. Baird currently leads the Rayz in goals with ten and is second on the team in points with 19.
Baird, 24, posted four straight multiple point games this week, beginning Wednesday morning when he scored two goals in a 2:11 span to help the Rayz to a 6-4 win over the Memphis RiverKings. He followed that game up with a three point performance against Austin on Friday night. He then posted five points in a home and home series with Rio Grande Valley. Baird has points in ten of the last 11 games, and has registered at least one point in all but two games this season. Along with linemates Greg Bullock and Matt Noga, Baird led the Rayz top scoring line that combined for nine goals and 25 points this past week.
Baird has picked up this season right where he left off last year. With 19 points in ten games, he is tied for 7th in the CHL in points, and tied for 5th in the league in goals. He has also added 30 penalty minutes, which place him second on the Rayz. Last season, Baird set career highs in goals (27), points (79) and penalty minutes (196), and was named the CHL All-Star Game MVP. He was the only player to lead his team in both points and penalty minutes.
The Rayz have won four straight games and at 7-4-2, have 16 points and sit in first place in the Southeast Division. They will put their winning streak on the line Wednesday Night when they host the San Angelo Saints in a battle for first place in the Southern Conference. It will be the Rayz first College Night of the season at the American Bank Center. Discounted tickets are available for as low as $6 for all students with a valid college ID. The Rayz will entertain fans at the arena with sumo wrestling, turkey bowling and all fans will be eligible for a chance to win a Harley Davidson. Tickets are available at the American Bank Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. For more information, please contact the Rayz at (361)814-PUCK.
