Halifax Mooseheads News Release

It didn't take your Halifax Mooseheads long to get back into the win column after dropping their first regulation decision in 75 days one night earlier. The Herd got goals from five different players on Saturday afternoon in Shawinigan en route to a 5-2 victory over the Cataractes.

Halifax had their franchise record 25 game unbeaten in regulation streak snapped in Drummondville on Friday but got right back on the horse as the three-game Quebec road trip wrapped up at Centre Gervais Auto. Alex Doucet scored his third power play goal in four periods early into the contest by knocking one in from the top of the crease at the 4:40 mark of the first period to put the Moose ahead 1-0. Doucet would later add an assist and scored five points in his last two games.

The Herd added to the lead in the second period when Evan Boucher was left alone in front of the net after Halifax had the Cataractes hemmed in their own end for several moments. Jack Martin came off the boards with the puck and dished to Jordan Dumais who was able to thread a pass across in front to an awaiting Boucher. The big forward had plenty of time to settle the puck and fire a hard shot the beat goalie Remi Delafontaine at 3:16 of the middle period.

The visitors took the 2-0 lead to the dressing room but were due to start the third period on a 4-on-3 penalty kill with five penalties handed out between the two clubs following a melee at the end of the second. The Cataractes made the Moose pay quickly by getting on the board just 20 seconds into the power play with Lorenzo Canonica scoring his 16th of the season. After a missed penalty shot by Evan Boucher, the Swiss import Canonica tied the game 2-2 at the 3:27 mark.

Adversity was nothing new for the Mooseheads on this road trip with the suspension to Zach L'Heureux and injuries to Cam Whynot and Attilio Biasca, so they did not let the quick comeback rattle them in Shawinigan. Jordan Dumais did what he does best, which is score in the clutch. The Blue Jackets prospect notched his 38th goal of the season and eventual game-winner at 7:18 and the Herd did not look back. Brady James was solid when called upon with 21 saves and the Herd sealed the victory with empty goals by Mathieu Cataford and Markus Vidicek.

Dumais had a three-point afternoon and upped his QMJHL best points total to 98. He is riding a nine-game points streak that has seen him collect 21 points during that stretch. Doucet, Boucher and Vidicek also had multi-point days while defenceman Jack Martin chipped in with a pair of assists.

Halifax is still awaiting word from the QMJHL on the length of suspension for Zach L'Heureux who has missed two games after being suspended indefinitely by the league on Friday. Cam Whynot and Attilio Biasca both missed the game with upper body injuries. The next home game for the Herd is coming up on Friday, February 17th at 7pm against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Scotiabank Centre. Halifax will also entertain the Moncton Wildcats on Heritage Day Monday at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
