Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - As the Binghamton Senators prepare for a big weekend on the ice against the Hershey Bears (Friday) and Springfield Falcons (Saturday), the organization also prepares for a busy weekend of events and festivities surrounding both games.

The festivities begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m. as the first 1,500 fans through the doors will receive a Verizon Wireless Expanda Banner.

The B-Sens have teamed with Catholic Charities for a food drive. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the food drive on the main concourse.

The Broome Sports Foundation will announce the six recipients of this year's Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarship during a first-intermission ceremony on Friday night. Each recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist in furthering their education.

Lourdes presents the Face Off Against Cancer on Saturday night, with many fundraising events taking place throughout the night. The B-Sens will wear Binghamton Mets themed jerseys when they take the ice against the Springfield Falcons. All game-worn and game-issued jerseys will be auctioned off live following the game, with the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Both teams will use special Face Off Against Cancer pucks during the 20-minute warm-up session. These pucks will then be sold for $25 each on the main concourse. There are only 80 of these unique pucks. The money from the puck sale will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Our cross-town friends, the Binghamton Mets, will be signing autographs pre-game and during the first intermission in the Arena Club on the third floor.

Denis Hamel and Matt Carkner will be at center ice immediately following Saturday's game for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer raffle drawing. Denis and Matt will be joined at center ice by representative from Lourdes and the American Cancer Society. A cancer survivor will draw the winning raffle ticket; a prize up to $10,000. If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket, please contact Christa Reese at the Binghamton Senators office: (607) 722-7367.

A one-hour post game skate will conclude Saturday's festivities. Fans must have their own skates and only people with skates with be granted access to the ice surface.

In addition to the Face Off Against Cancer festivities, Binghamton University's Institute for Child Development will be on-hand to promote Autism Awareness Month (April). One in every 150 children born in the United States has autism.
