B-Mets Swept Away by Senators, 4-1

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Harrisburg Senators used two home runs and five walks to beat the Binghamton Mets and complete a two-game sweep with a 4-1 win today at NYSEG Stadium. The defeat extends Binghamton's losing streak to a season-high six games.

Jeurys Familia had a rocky beginning to his third Double-A start. Leadoff batter Josh Johnson walked to start the game and immediately advanced to third when Familia's pickoff attempt bounced past first baseman Allan Dykstra.

The Senators wasted little time cashing in on the B-Mets' seventh error of the series as Alex Valdez blooped a single over Jose Coronado's head at short to bring home Johnson with the game's first run.

Harrisburg third baseman Stephen King busted out the lumber in the second. For the second time in the series, the Senators led off the second inning as King launched his first long ball of the season over the left field fence.

Familia handed out his third free pass of the game later in frame as he put Johnson on base on four pitches. The base on balls would come back to bite the righty when Brahiam Maldonado slipped when trying to field Alex Valdez's single in right. The ball rolled to the wall and allowed Johnson to score on the error, giving Harrisburg a 3-0 lead.

Familia worked out of trouble in the third inning and retired the final seven batters he faced to close out five innings on the hill.

Binghamton could not convert on a golden chance in the fourth inning. Following Josh Satin's leadoff double, Brahiam Maldonado walked to put two runners aboard. Both moved into scoring position, but were stranded as Allan Dykstra and Erik Campbell both struck out to end the frame.

Binghamton finally got to Harrisburg starter Tanner Roark in the sixth when Lorenzo Scott roped his second triple down the right field line to lead off the frame. Josh Satin bounced out to short on the very next pitch to bring home the B-Mets' only run of the game.

Ricky Brooks followed Familia and posted two shutout innings. Erik Turgeon tossed the eighth and ninth, with a leadoff home run allowed to Jonathan Tucker as his only blemish. The solo shot by Tucker was the fourth home run of the series for Harrisburg; all of which came to lead off innings.

Allan Dykstra would prove to be Binghamton's last base runner after he singled to leadoff the seventh. Relievers Erik Arenesen and Hassan Pena combined to retire the final nine B-Mets they faced.

The B-Mets (13-26) hit the road for a four-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats. RHP Brandon Moore (3-2, 5.05) will take the rubber for Binghamton with first pitch set for 6:35pm. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
