B-Mets Swept Away by R-Phils, 3-1 & 1-0

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Reading Phillies Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium, falling 3-1 in game one before suffering a 1-0 loss in the nightcap. The B-Mets have lost three straight games and sit three games under .500.

The B-Mets took a one-run lead into the top of the seventh inning in the opener, but could not nail down the victory. Binghamton starter Mark Cohoon cruised through six innings before things unraveled in the final frame. Brandon Tripp and Jiwan James started the rally with back-to-back singles with one out.

Pinch hitter Jeremy Barnes sent a chopper to short that had double play potential. After some hesitation, Josh Rodriguez's flip to Reese Havens at second was late and Binghamton failed to get any outs. Miguel Abreu capitalized on the misstep and tied the game with a sac fly to center field.

With runners at second and third, Adrian Rosario was called in from the bullpen and immediately surrendered a two-run single to Cesar Hernadez. Justin Friend took over in the seventh for Reading and worked around a leadoff walk to collect his 12th save.

The B-Mets had scored their only run in the first inning off R-Phils starter Jonathan Pettibone. Josh Rodriguez singled with one out and scored when Jefry Marte ripped a double down the third base line. It was Binghamton's only run of the day.

Cohoon (3-6) allowed three runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings in the losing effort. Pettibone (6-5) tossed six innings to collect the victory.

Binghamton's offense was kept in check by four R-Phils pitchers in the night cap. The B-Mets were held to six hits and never had a runner reach third base in their seventh shutout loss of the year.

Reading scratched out the game's only run in the fourth off starter Collin McHugh. Cesar Hernandez started the inning by lacing a triple into the right field corner. Darin Ruf quickly brought him home on a sac fly to right.

It was the only blemish for McHugh (5-5) in the hard-luck loss. The righty allowed one run on five hits and struck out seven over 5.2 innings.

In his first career start, Jordan Whatcott tossed three scoreless innings, scattering three hits. Colby Shreve posted a scoreless inning and Lisalberto Bonilla (2-1) earned the official scorer-awarded win with two shutout frames. Michael Cisco nailed down his first save with a scoreless seventh.

The B-Mets (29-32) will look to avoid their first three-game sweep of the season Thursday morning at 10:35 AM. RHP Zack Wheeler takes the ball for Binghamton against RHP Austin Hyatt. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show for the day's action begins at 10:20 AM on ESPN 1360 WYOS.
