Binghamton Mets (36-41) vs.

Bowie Baysox (39-39)

Double-A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles

RHP Greg Peavey (3-4, 5.40) vs. RHP Zach Clark (6-4, 3.12)

Game #78 - Friday, June 29, 2012

NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 7:05 PM

LAST GAME: The B-Mets let an early lead slip away and lost their third straight game, falling to the Bowie Baysox 8-6 last night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton held a 3-0 lead, but the Baysox scored four runs in the fourth against Darin Gorski on four consecutive hits, a fielder's choice and a throwing error by catcher Juan Centeno. Binghamton tied the game in the seventh on a Juan Lagares sac fly, but Bowie grabbed the edge with a run in the eighth against Ryan Fraser and three more in the ninth versus Robert Carson. Binghamton was let back in the game when Clay Schrader and Pedro Viola issued four consecutive walks, but their comeback bid fell two runs short. Reliever Pat Egan earned his second win, while Fraser suffered his first loss as a B-Met. Viola collected his fourth save.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Greg Peavey (3-4, 5.40) makes his 14th start of the season and first against the Baysox. The righty from Vancouver, Washington looks to snap a three-game losing streak and five-start winless stretch. Peavey's last victory came against the Portland Sea Dogs on May 20. His last win at home was on April 9 versus the Erie SeaWolves in his Double-A debut. Peavey lost his most recent start against the SeaWolves on June 23, allowing five runs on ten hits while striking out five over 6.1 innings of work. A sixth-round pick out of Oregon State University in 2010, Peavey split last season between the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) and St. Lucie Mets (High-A).

RHP Zach Clark (6-4, 3.12) takes the mound for his 14th start of the season looking to extend his three-game winning streak. The Delaware native allowed four runs on ten hits on June 24 against the Reading Phillies in his last start, but got nine runs of support to earn the victory. After allowing ten runs in his first two starts of the season, Clark has compiled a 2.31 ERA in his last 11 starts. While he went 2-3 in the month of May, he amassed a 1.59 ERA. He also made two starts for the Norfolk Tides (AAA) in late May and early June, going 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA. Signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2006, Clark is in his fourth season with the Baysox.

HOME SLUMP CONTINUES: Last night's loss was Binghamton's fifth-straight defeat at NYSEG Stadium. Their 15 wins at home are the second-fewest in the league, just ahead of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (13). Their last win at home came two weeks ago against the Altoona Curve on June 15. The B-Mets' ERA at home has risen to 4.26, more than half a run higher than their ERA on the road, 3.70.

LOOKING TO AVOID THE SWEEP: The B-Mets tonight will attempt to avoid getting swept for the first time this season in a series longer than two games. The Reading Phillies were the last team to sweep Binghamton, taking all four games of a set to end the 2011 regular season at NYSEG Stadium.

ALL-STAR GAME BOUND: The Eastern League released the rosters for this year's All-Star Game to be played at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA on July 11. The B-Mets will be represented by infielders Eric Campbell and Jefry Marte and pitcher Zack Wheeler.

FIRST-TIME HONORS: Eric Campbell and Jefry Marte will be going to their first All-Star Game in their pro careers. Zack Wheeler was named to the California League All-Star Game last year while he was a member of the San Jose Giants (SFG: High-A).

SLOWING IT DOWN: Last night's ballgame lasted 3:34, the longest B-Met game of the season.

HAVENS HITTING OUT OF IT: After hitting just .168 through his first 40 games of the season, B-Mets second baseman Reese Havens has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, raising his batting average by 38 percentage points. The South Carolina has hit .333 (13-for-39) during the 11-game stretch.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their eight-game homestand by welcoming in the Altoona Curve for a four-game set starting tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. RHP Zack Wheeler faces RHP Tim Alderson.
