Jorge Padilla singled home Rashad Eldridge in the bottom of the 13th inning as the Binghamton Mets picked up a hard-fought, 4-3 extra-inning win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at NYSEG Stadium Monday. The B-Mets swept the four-game series and finished their six-game homestand with a 5-1 mark.
New Hampshire (36-45) went on top in the fifth. After Rich Rundles walked Tony Miller, an errant pickoff throw moved him to third before Curtis Thigpen scored Miller with a double. David Smith followed with an RBI single off Ryan Cullen, bringing home Thigpen for a 2-0 New Hampshire lead.
The B-Mets (38-44), hitless for the first five innings against Mike MacDonald, finally broke through in the sixth. Corey Ragsdale led off the inning with a walk before Mike DiFelice picked up Binghamton's first hit, a single to right that moved Ragsdale to third. Ragsdale would score when Eldridge hit into a double play, cutting the Fisher Cats' lead to 2-1.
MacDonald gave way to Jordan DeJong in the ninth, who yielded a one-out single to Wilson Batista. After Padilla reached on a fielder's choice that erased Batista at second, Michel Abreu singled to right, putting runners at first and second for Jay Caligiuri, who delivered an RBI single through the right side, scoring Padilla and tying the game at two.
B-Mets reliever Eddie Camacho began the top of the 13th by retiring the first two hitters before walking Carlo Cota and Brad Hassey. Ron Davenport followed with a base hit to center, scoring Cota for a 3-2 New Hampshire lead. Henry Owens (2-1) came on to get the final out of the inning.
DiFelice started Binghamton's rally in the bottom of the 13th by singling off Brian Wolfe before Kevin Rios came on to pinch-run for him. Eldridge then delivered a base hit to center, moving Rios to third and ending Wolfe's (0-3) night. Batista then reached Kurt Isenberg for a single to center, scoring Rios to tie the game before Padilla delivered the walk-off single.
Tuesday, the B-Mets start a seven-game road trip, opening a three-game series at Bowie. Miguel Perez (2-4, 5.05) will start for Binghamton against southpaw Garrett Olson (1-0, 5.56) of Bowie.
