
Eastern League announces weekly award winners

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending July 2nd:
Erie SeaWolves first baseman Kelly Hunt has been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending July 2nd. The 25-year old had an outstanding week for the SeaWolves, hitting .360 (9-for-25) with three doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI, six runs scored and a 1.080 slugging percentage in six games. Hunt, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio, had four multiple hit games last week, including a pair of multiple home run games. The 6'5", 240 lb. slugger was especially impressive in Erie's 13-0 win against the Reading Phillies at FirstEnergy Stadium on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with three home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored. Kelly, who is currently ranked seventh in the league in home runs (12), was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 29th round of the June 2003 draft out of Bowling Green State University after batting .439 with nine homers and 61 RBI in 45 games for the Falcons.

Shane Youman, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Altoona Curve, is the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 2nd. The 6'4", 219 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the Curve last week and was 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA. In his first appearance of the week the 26-year old limited Akron to one run on six hits while striking out one batter and walking one in six innings to earn a win at Canal Park last Monday. Youman, a native of New Iberia, Louisiana, also faced Akron in his second start of the week and was even more impressive, surrendering just three hits in seven shutout innings of work while recording four strikeouts and one walk in a no-decision at Blair County Ballpark on Sunday. Shane, who is currently leading the league in ERA (1.46) and is tied for second in WHIP (0.96), was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 43rd round of the June 2001 draft out of Louisiana State University.
