Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

A five-run first inning was more than enough support for Yusmeiro Petit as the Binghamton Mets ended their eight-game losing streak by blowing out the Harrisburg Senators 10-2 at Commerce Bank Park Tuesday. Binghamton evened up the four-game series at a game apiece.

Lastings Milledge began the first for the B-Mets (45-60) with a single to center off Harrisburg's Rich Rundles. After he stole second, Wayne Lydon bunted Milledge to third and was able to reach when Rundles (6-9) threw to third and was unable to get the out. Aarom Baldiris then followed with a base hit to left, bringing home Milledge with the game's first run. After Mike Jacobs reached on an error, Brett Harper blooped a single down the leftfield line, bringing home Lydon and Baldiris. Two batters later, Corey Ragsdale made it 5-0 with a longball to left.

After Harrisburg (53-56) got to Petit for back-to-back doubles by Josh Labandeira and Dan DeMent for a run in the first and a Cristian Guzman homer in the fifth to pull within 5-2, the B-Mets put the game away in the final two innings. In the eighth, Jacobs walked with one out and came home when Brett Harper launched his tenth homer of the year off the right-centerfield scoreboard for a 7-2 lead. Harper, who homered for the third straight game, went 4 for 5 with four RBI. Jay Caligiuri followed Harper's homer with a double and Bobby Malek brought him home with a single for Binghamton's eighth run.

Jacobs' 21st homer of the year, a two-run shot in the ninth that scored Baldiris who singled, capped off Binghamton's scoring. Petit (6-3) went eight innings, allowing five hits and no walks, striking out seven, for his fourth win in five starts. Wednesday, the B-Mets play the third game of their four-game series at Harrisburg. Orlando Roman (3-3, 4.53) will start for the B-Mets against Darrell Rasner (5-5, 3.94) of Harrisburg. Game time at Commerce Bank Park is 6:35, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the radio broadcast at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
