Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY – B.J. Upton's stay in Montgomery ended today when he was sent to the Devil Rays' AAA affiliate Durham (International League). The star shortstop, who is rated as the second-best prospect in baseball, will join the Bulls by tomorrow.

B.J. got the nod after Damian Rolls was recalled from Durham to Tampa Bay to take the place of an injured Eduardo Perez. Perez tore his left Achilles tendon in a game against Anaheim on Sunday.

Upton leaves Montgomery batting .327 with 15 RBIs and two home runs. He is the second player in Biscuits history to be called to Durham, along with pitcher Franklin Nunez.

Biscuits pitcher Jason Pruett was also placed on the disabled list today with pain in his left shoulder.

Montgomery will add two players to its roster to replace Upton and Pruett. Left-handed pitcher Chris Seddon was called up from Class-A Bakersfield. So far this season he is 4-0 with a 0.65 ERA in seven starts. Seddon was a fifth round pick by the Devil Rays in the 2001 draft. The Biscuits will also add utility player Matt Bowser. The Devil Rays acquired him last December via the Rule 5 from Oakland. Bowser is a career .261 hitter in four seasons. He spent last year in Class-A Modesto where he hit .294 and had 57 RBIs, including seven home runs.
