Mississippi Braves News Release

The Greenville Braves are proud to be a major supporter of Greenville County Schools and their Middle School Sports program. In 2001, Steve DeSalvo and the Greenville Braves stepped up to the plate in an effort to continue Middle School Sports after budget cuts throughout the state threatened to end the program.

DeSalvo in his efforts to assist the School District in saving the Middle School Sports Program formed a non-profit organization, The CORE Initiative to help raise money through Corporate and Individual donations and sponsorships. His efforts have paid off as the CORE has raised thousands of dollars and distributed it throughout the School Districts 18 Middle Schools.

On Friday, May 21 the CORE Board of Directors will present a check totaling just over $9,100 to the Greenville County School District to be allotted for Middle School Sports. This money was raised during the Middle School Basketball, Baseball and Softball tournaments. The presentation will take place before the G-Braves 7:15 game against the Montgomery Biscuits.

The Greenville Braves and the CORE Initiative will also recognize the 2004 Middle School Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament Champions and will present the 2004 Baseball and Softball Champs with their Championship Medals.

For more information on how you and your company can become a Corporate or Individual supporter of the CORE Initiative contact Brenda Yoder at 864-299-3456 or email: brenda.yoder@turner.com. The CORE Initiative, Inc. is a 501 © (3) organization; all donations are tax deductible.

A member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the Greenville Braves are the Double A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and are playing their final season in Greenville before moving to Pearl, Mississippi for the 2005 season.
