Paul Byrd to Pitch in Greenville

Atlanta Braves right-handed pitcher PAUL BYRD will join the class-AA Greenville Braves on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment tomorrow. Byrd, who is coming back from "Tommy John" elbow surgery performed last summer, will start Thursday night's homestand finale at 7:15 vs. Jacksonville at Greenville Municipal Stadium. He will be on an approximate 75-pitch limit. If things go well for Byrd Thursday, he will then pitch again for the G-Braves on Tuesday, May 18th, when the G-Braves host Montgomery.

Byrd, signed by the Braves as a major league free-agent in December, 2002, has yet to pitch an inning for Atlanta. He made a rehab start for Greenville last April, and then underwent surgery shortly thereafter. His last major league action came in 2002, when he went 17-11 with a 3.90 ERA for Kansas City. An eight-year major league veteran, Byrd owns a lifetime big league record of 52-46 (4.39) in 196 appearances with the Mets, Braves, Phillies and Royals.
