Aviators Top Slammers 4-2 to Even Series

May 27, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford Aviators News Release

The Rockford Aviators (10-1) got back on the winning track one day after their first loss of the season as they defeated the Joliet Slammers 4-2 in a Wednesday morning matinee at Aviator's Stadium in Loves Park, IL. Greg Velazquez' first home run, a two run shot in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Slammers (6-5) saw their six game winning streak come to a end. Velazquez nearly hit his second round tripper in the eighth as he doubled off the wall to drive in an insurance run.

Starter Kyle Brueggmann (3-0) posted the victory for Rockford as the righthander pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just two runs (both on a first inning homer by Chris Serritella) on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Colby Holmes (1.1 innings) and Michael Schaub helped close it out for Rockford, with Schaub recording his fourth save with a perfect ninth inning. Aaron Vaughn (0-1) suffered the loss for Joliet despite a quality start in which he yielded just three runs on seven hits in six innings.

The two teams wrap up their series on Thursday at Aviators Stadium at 6:35 pm. The Aviators will then close out the home stand when they host the Traverse City Beach Bums in a three game series Friday thru Sunday (May 29-31).
