
Rascals Extend Win-Streak to Four

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (5-5) opened their three-game series against the Washington Wild Things (2-8) with a 9-5 victory on Tuesday, May 26 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals have now won four games in a row.
Washington began the scoring with a Lee Orr solo homerun in the second inning. Then in the fifth, David Popkins led off with a double. He moved to third base on an error and scored on a throwing error by RF Zach Kometani.
The Rascals tied the game in the sixth inning. CF Curran Redal reached base on an error by second baseman Matt Ford to begin the inning. After a walk by C Josh Ludy, 1B Danny Canela hit a double down the right field, scoring both runners.
Redal and SS Johnny Morales each singled to lead off the seventh inning; Ludy then walked to load the bases. Canela unloaded the bases with a three-RBI double off the right field wall. Kometani hit an infield single, moving Canela to third base. Canela scored on a throwing error by first baseman Orr, extending the Rascals' lead to 6-2.
Daniel Poma led off the eighth inning with a double, and C.J. Beatty reached on an infield single. Sam Mende then hit a three-run homer, cutting their deficit to just one run.
3B Taylor Ard reached base on an error by third baseman Mende to begin the bottom of the eighth inning. DH Saxon Butler followed with a single to left field, and Redal hit an RBI single to right, scoring Ard and advancing DH Josh Silver, who pinch-ran for Butler, to third base. With men on the corners, Morales laid down a suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt, and Silver scored from third base. Canela hit an RBI single to left, giving the Rascals a 9-5 advantage. He ended the night 3-for-4 with six RBI.
Rascals starter RHP Dane Stone did not receive a decision after tossing 5.0 innings. He allowed two runs, four hits, and two walks while striking out a season-high five. RHP Heith Hatfield (W, 1-0) earned the victory after pitching 2.0 perfect innings and punching out two batters.
RHP Derek Cape surrendered two runs over 0.2 inning, RHP Nick Kennedy allowed one run on a homer in just 0.1 inning. RHP Zeb Sneed (S, 3) struck out three hitters and picked up the four-out save.
Washington starter Matt Sergey received a no-decision after allowing two runs, one earned, two hits, and four walks. Tyler Wilson (L, 0-1) ceded four runs, three earned, in 1.0 inning of work.
The Rascals continue their three-game set against the Washington Wild Things on Wednesday, May 27 at 6:35 p.m. CST at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. RHP Joe Scanio (2-0, 3.14) will start for the Rascals, and RHP Luke Wilkins (0-0, 1.80) will start for the Wild Things.
