
Aviators Top Grizzlies 9-4 to Take Series Opener in Sauget

Payton Baskette (1-1) pitched five innings to record his first victory while the offense accumulated 13 hits as the Rockford Aviators (24-11) captured Game One of a three game weekend series against the Gateway Grizzlies (12-25) by defeating the Grizzlies 9-4 Friday night in Frontier League baseball action at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, IL. It was Rockford's fourth straight win against Gateway this season, with all four wins coming at GCS Ballpark.
The Aviators touched Gateway Starter Troy Barton (0-2) for a single run in the second inning before adding two more in the fourth and fifth frames. Meanwhile, Baskette held the Grizzlies scoreless until Gateway plated three in the fifth. The Aviators eventually built up a 9-3 lead heading into the ninth before the Grizzlies added a final run. Michael Hur and Devon Rodriguez paced the Rockford offense with three hits apiece.
The two teams resume action on Saturday night (7:05 pm) at Gateway before closing out the series on Sunday (3:05 pm) at GCS Ballpark. The Aviators return home to host the Florence Freedom in the first of a three game set on Tuesday, June 30 (6:35 pm).at Aviators Stadium in Loves Park, IL.
