Schaumburg Boomers News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were shut out 2-0 by the East Division leading Traverse City Beach Bums in the opener of a series on Friday night.
Both starting pitchers allowed very little in a contest that took just over two hours. Eddie Cody twirled a complete game but suffered his first loss of the season, allowing single runs in the sixth and eighth. Reggie Lawson hit a solo homer to open the scoring. Schaumburg managed just four hits against Traverse City starter Kramer Champlin, who tossed a complete game shutout. Champlin retired 11 in a row from the sixth until the ninth and allowed just one runner to reach scoring position. Mike Schulze singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to a league high and team record 18 games.
Schaumburg (15-22) will attempt to break a five-game slide on Saturday night. RHP Edwin Carl (0-3, 4.64) is scheduled to start for the Boomers against RHP Anthony Montefusco (3-2, 4.75). Schaumburg returns home for a six-game stint beginning on June 30. Ensure your place in the fun at Boomers Stadium this summer by calling (847) 461-FOWL (3695).
