Wild Things lose Game 1

Marion, IL - The Wild Things dropped game one of the three game series versus the Southern Illinois Miners at Rent One Park Friday night 5-4. Alan Oaks received the win for the Miners while Jonathan Kountis took the loss.

The Wild Things got off to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Danny Poma led off with a single to center and after a stolen base and a passed ball, Scott Kalamar drove him in with a fielder's choice to second. Later in the inning Sam Mende walked and after stealing second was driven in by Carter Bell with a single down the middle.

Carter Bell added to the lead again with a solo home run to lead off the top of the fourth, his second of the year, making it 3-0 Wild Things.

Tim Flight pitched lights out for the Wild Things Friday night scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings, striking out the last three batters he faced; Miners starter had a tough night giving up three runs and walking seven batters over six innings.

CJ Beatty added some insurance in the top of the ninth with an RBI double making it 4-0.

But in the end the Miners rallied for five runs in the bottom of the 9th to win the game, including a grad slam.

The Wild Things look to tie the series Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05PM EDT.
