San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 14, 2016) - The Colorado Avalanche have reassigned forward Mikko Rantanen to the San Antonio Rampage. In addition, forward Jackson Houck has been reassigned to the club's ECHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles and forward Alexandre Ranger has been reassigned to the Norfolk Admirals.
Rantanen, 19, was the first-round (10th overall) pick of the Avalanche in the June 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 8, 2015 against the Minnesota Wild, becoming the fifth 18-year-old to play for the Avalanche (Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan O'Reilly, Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog). The 6-4, 211-pound right wing led the Rampage in goals (24), assists (36), and points (60) for the 2015-16 season, landing him in a tie with Providence's Frank Vatrano for the AHL's outstanding rookie of the year. In addition, Rantanen was named captain of Finland's 2015-16 IIHF World Junior Championship team, leading the team to the gold and earning Player of the Game in the championship game.
Houck, 21, concluded last season with the Rampage, suiting up in three games with the Silver and Black. He spent most of the season, however, playing in the WHL, splitting time between Vancouver and Calgary. His last AHL debut was during the 2014-15 season when he appeared in seven games for the Oklahoma City Barons, notching one assist in the short campaign.
Ranger, 21, spent the 2015-16 season playing in the ECHL with the Norfolk Admirals. He had a short stint toward the end of last season, when he was loaned to the St. John's IceCaps, making his AHL debut in Feb. 2016 against Utica.
The Rampage open the season against Milwaukee for a two-game weekend series with the Admirals on Saturday and Sunday. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Individual and season tickets are available and can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com. The 2016-17 season is presented by Wells Fargo. # # www.sarampage.com # #
