Manitoba Moose News Release
Winnipeg, MB - The Manitoba Moose are pleased to announce Patrice Cormier as team captain.
"To have the 'C' is obviously special and to have the coaches regard you in that way and have the respect of your teammates," said Patrice Cormier. "I take great pride in it and will do the best I can to lead this team and be a good leader."
Cormier, 26, joined the organization as a prospect in 2010 as part of a trade with the New Jersey Devils and made his professional debut with the Chicago Wolves. Since then, Cormier suited up for over 300 professional games including 264 games with the Moose and St. John's IceCaps. In total, Cormier has 128 points (63G, 65A) and 403 penalty minutes in 275 AHL games. In 2015-16, Cormier finished sixth on the team with 32 points (15G, 17A) through 65 games. The Moncton, NB native also served as an alternate captain for the Moose last season.
Cormier was drafted in the second round, 54th overall, by New Jersey in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 52 NHL games with Winnipeg and Atlanta.
"Patrice has great work ethic. He's a leader who brings players together and has tremendous values," commented Moose head coach Pascal Vincent. "He's a very good captain. He's a very good leader, but most importantly he's a very good person."
In addition to announcing Cormier as captain, the Manitoba Moose also revealed their opening night 29-man roster ahead of tonight's season opener. The roster includes 18 forwards, 9 defencemen and 2 goaltenders. 14 of those players were drafted by the Jets or Thrashers.
