
Austin FC Signs Free Agent Midfielder and Three-Time MLS Cup Winner Hector Jimenez

Austin, Texas - Austin FC, the 27th club in Major League Soccer (MLS), announced today the signing of free agent midfielder Hector Jimenez. Per League and club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Jimenez becomes Austin FC's first-ever free agent signing in MLS, as well as the Club's 13th acquisition ahead of its inaugural season in 2021.
"Hector is an experienced, versatile MLS player who will bring a wealth of success and flexibility to the squad," commented Austin FC Head Coach, Josh Wolff. "Along with his quality on the field, we know he will be an influential person in the locker room as well as the training field."
"I'm beyond thankful for this next chapter in my career and honored to be a part of Austin FC's inaugural season," commented Jimenez. "I look forward to getting to know the city of Austin and the fans, but most of all I can't wait to get to work with my teammates and coaches."
Jimenez (Pronounced "hee-MEH-nes"), who was recently crowned 2020 MLS Cup Champion with Columbus, joined Crew SC in 2014 and logged 95 starts in 141 matches in League play while recording six (6) goals and 25 assists during seven (7) seasons. Jimenez also made nine (9) appearances (nine (9) starts) with Crew SC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Prior to joining Columbus, Jiménez spent the 2011-13 seasons with the LA Galaxy, where he earned his first two (2) MLS Cup titles (2011, 2012) and one (1) Supporters' Shield (2011) with 56 matches played (36 starts), four (4) goals and four (4) assists across League play, USOC and Concacaf Champions League.
