Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Austin FC fell 2-1 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday night at BC Place, marking the team's first loss in five games.
The hosts took the lead in the first minute of the game with a goal from Pedro Vite. The Ecuadorian scored with a left-footed shot in the box. The Verde & Black responded well, generating a handful of good chances. In the 28th minute, Ethan Finlay's effort was blocked by Whitecaps goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka, while Sebastián Driussi's follow-up sailed just over the crossbar.
Rodney Redes came on as a halftime substitute and made an immediate impact. In the 47th minute, the Paraguayan scored an equalizing goal for Austin, powerfully cleaning up the rebound after Driussi's cross was initially parried by Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka.
Vancouver regained the lead in the 72nd minute. Ryan Gauld played a through ball to Sergio Córdova, who collected the ball in the box and scored the game's decisive goal for Vancouver.
