Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC fought to a 2-2 draw against San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Q2 Stadium, with Argentine attackers Emiliano Rigoni and Sebastián Driussi scoring the goals for the Verde & Black.
The Earthquakes took the lead after 21 minutes. Carlos Akapo found Jackson Yueill in the box, and Yueill hit an accurate left-footed strike to the far post.
The Verde & Black equalized before halftime, with Rigoni netting his first goal for the Club in the 40th-minute. Dani Pereira played the ball in from midfield and Rodney Redes won it in the air, nodding a pass to Rigoni who finished the play in style.
Austin pressed forward in search of a winner in the second half. Nick Lima came close with an hour played, forcing San Jose goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski to make a diving save on a volley hit from the edge of the penalty area.
Despite promising attacking play from the hosts, San Jose retook the lead with 15 minutes left to play thanks to Jeremy Ebobisse. But Austin wouldn't stay behind for long, leveling the score once again in the 78th-minute. Marcinkowski parried Leo Väisänen's strong header onto the post, and the rebound fell to Driussi who tapped in from close range.
