Austin Bold FC News Release
RENO, Nev. - Striker Kléber scored the first goal in club history as Austin Bold FC (0-1-1) fell to Reno 1868 FC, 2-1, at Greater Nevada Field on Saturday afternoon.
ABFC opened the scoring in the 14th minute when forward DarÃo Conca punched a ball into the box finding Kléber in stride, who fought off a pair of Reno defenders to slot the ball along the left side for the first goal in club history.
Reno scored the equalized in the first minute of the second half after midfielder Raul Mendiola connected with forward Brian Brown at the top of the box. Brown was able to drive the ball past Bold goalkeeper Diego Restrepo to level the score, 1-1.
Brown picked up his second goal of the contest in the 78th minute to make it 2-1 after splitting the Bold defense, putting a head on a ball on an inbound pass from defender Brent Richards and giving Reno 1868 FC a lead they would not relinquish.
The Bold had their chances to tie things up late, with several chances over the final minute of stoppage time, including a shot from striker André Lima inside the box that missed to right, followed by a left-footed volley by midfielder Faris Abdi from outside the top of the box that also went right.
ABFC will return to action on Saturday, March 30 for the first home match in club history and the debut of Bold Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and the match will be available on ESPN+.
