Wednesday, August 10 - 7:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #73 - Home Game #34 (42-30, 20-13)

RHP #33 JAKE RENSHAW (8-4, 3.16 ERA) vs. RHP #19 BRAD STONE (0-6, 6.79 ERA)

Last Time Out.

Every player in the lineup got a hit and the Joliet Slammers (42-30) held off a late rally by the Gateway Grizzlies (30-42) to win by a score of 7-6 in front of 3853 fans Tuesday night at the yard. The Slammers fell behind by a score of 2-0 after the first inning. With two outs and nobody on in the third, Joliet rallied. Hector Pellot drew a huge walk on a 3-2 pitch and Erik Lis followed with an opposite field double that scored Pellot and cut Gateway's lead to 2-1. Kyle Maunus blooped a single to right that drove home Lis and tied the game. Josh Flores added a two run home run in the fourth and Pellot smacked a RBI single. After Gateway got one back in the fifth, Joliet tacked on two more in the bottom of the frame on an Estand RBI double and a Trey Manz RBI single. A three run home run from Gateway cut the lead to one in the sixth, but it would stay that way as the Slammers' bullpen held up.

For Starters.

"Captain" Jake Renshaw is coming off his third complete game of the season as he beat the Gateway Grizzlies by a score of 3-1 his last time out on August 4. Renshaw is the team leader in wins with eight. Renshaw matched his season high with seven strike outs in the victory over Gateway. He was a 10th round draft pick out of Ventura College by the Chicago Cubs in 2006. He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round in 2004 but did not sign. Renshaw spent two years with the Cubs organization and pitched two years at the high-A level with the Orioles organization. The 25-year old right hander put up excellent numbers last year in the Golden Baseball league as he posted a 2.39 ERA in 16 appearances.

Comeback kids.

Last night was the Slammers' 22nd come-from-behind victory out of 42 total wins on the year.

#Winning.

Joliet has matched their season high of 12 games over .500.

Taking charge.

The Slammers have matched their season best lead of 4.5 games in the East Division. It's been more than a month (the end of play on July 8) since the Slammers took over first place by themselves in the East. They have not surrendered it since taking over. Joliet did not have a lead by themselves at all before July 8.

Flores on fire.

Josh Flores is hitting.359 with four home runs over the Slammers' last ten games. He had four homers total on the year before the recent hot streak.

Powerful duo.

Erik Lis and Kyle Maunus have combined for 29 home runs this year. That's more than the rest of the active Slammers combined (28).

Putting the ball in play.

Catcher Ben Hewett is the only Slammer who doesn't have more K's than BB's. He has 11 of each.

Pitching is the key.

The Slammers have the third best ERA in the Frontier League at 3.82. In addition, they've held opponents to a league low .242 batting average. The bullpen has been especially strong, compiling an ERA of 3.08.

Aggression.

Joliet's hitters like to swing the bat as evidenced by their league low 238 walks. Josh Flores leads the team in walks with 34 on the season.
