
Auburn Shuts out 'Cats in Series Opener

The Tri-City ValleyCats (32-31) dropped their fourth consecutive game Tuesday night, a 2-0 decision to the Auburn Doubledays (25-36) at Falcon Park.
Tyler Britton (0-1) suffered the loss in his first professional decision, allowing two earned runs in three innings. In relief, Salvador Montaî=B1o and Kevin Hill combined for five scoreless innings, striking out three.
Making his first start for the 'Cats, Andy Pineda went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, the only ValleyCat to register a multi-hit game.
For Auburn, Oliver Ortiz scored both runs, reaching once via a walk and once after Britton hit him with a pitch.
Dane Dunning (2-1) earned the win for the Doubledays, striking out three in five innings. Kevin Mooney and A.J. Bogucki each pitched two scoreless, and Bogucki picked up his first save.
The 'Cats have now scored just one run in their past 27 innings, dating back to August 20, and haven't hit a home run in 12 games.
Auburn hosts the 'Cats in game two of the series tomorrow night, August 24. Abdiel Saldaî=B1a (0-1, 2.19) takes the bump for the 'Cats, opposing Auburn's Yonathan Ramirez (3-2, 4.07).
Tri-City's loss combined with the Lowell Spinners sixth consecutive win pushed them to six games behind the Spinners in the Stedler Division. The 'Cats remain three and a half games out of the Wild Card with 13 games remaining.
