Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers held the lead for the first six and a half innings on Tuesday night at MCU Park in Brooklyn. However a two out seventh inning rally for the Brooklyn Cyclones would tie the game. Then in the bottom of the eleventh inning, Brooklyn would get an RBI single from Anthony Dimino for the walk off win, 2-1.
Mahoning Valley got their lone run on the board in the top of the first inning. Todd Isaacs started the game by reaching base on a fielding error. After stealing second, Isaacs would move to third on a ground out. Andrew Calica would then drive Isaacs in on a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.
Scrappers' starter Shane Bieber along with Luis Jimenez would hold the Cyclones scoreless until the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh Jay Jabs would walk with one out. He would then move to second when Dominio walked with two outs to extend the inning. Franklin Correa followed with a broken bat bloop single scoring Jabs to tie the game.
The Scrappers would keep the game tied until the eleventh inning. After Michael Paez flew out to start the inning, Jabs, Dan Rizzie and Dimino all singled, with Dimino's setting off the Brooklyn celebration. With the loss the Scrappers are now 0-5 on the road in extra-inning games.
Bieber started and went 3.0 innings. He allowed just one walk and struck out two. Jimenez would then follow with 5.0 innings of relief. He allowed one earned run on two hits. Jimenez walked four and struck out two. Michael Letkewicz then followed with 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed two hits and walked one. Ryan Perez (1-3) took the loss in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out one.
The Scrappers (30-32) and Cyclones (32-31) continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 from MCU Park. Aaron Civale will get the start for the Scrappers. The team returns home to Eastwood Field on Friday August 26th.
