Attack to Honor Two Special Mercury's Players

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that this Wednesday; they will honor the memories of former Mercury's forward Doug Gillespie and Captain Pat McReavy.

Gillespie, born in Orangeville started out his amateur career playing for the Toronto Marlboro's from 1937-1939. After spending time in Europe, Doug returned to Owen Sound to suit up for the Owen Sound Mohawks for one season, before the birth of the Owen Sound Mercury's. Gillespie notched sixteen regular season goals despite only playing in twelve regular season games. In the playoffs, the centre upped his goal total to twenty three, while adding 38 assists.

McReavy, the Mercury's Captain during their championship season was one of the most beloved and respected players of all time in Owen Sound. While captaining the Mercury's in the championship season, McReavy scored twenty eight regular season goals while adding seventeen more in the playoffs. Following his playing career, McReavy stepped behind the bench for the Blue and White. As a tribute to his coaching ability, Pat was named to handle the OHA All-Stars when they played the inaugural All-Star game against the previous year's champions, Kitchener.

The ceremony will take place prior to Wednesday evening's game versus Kitchener. Game time at the J.D. McArthur Arena is 7:00pm.
