Attack Fight Back Against Cancer Tomorrow
March 5, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
Tomorrow afternoon, the Owen Sound Attack will be fighting back against Cancer at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre! The afternoon events, which begin at 2pm will include the Attack Players shaving their heads as a Kick off to Cops for Cancer, the signature event for the Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2010 Cops for Cancer will be kicking off its 14th year in Grey and Bruce. Today the Cops for Cancer campaign is one of the most successful Canadian Cancer Society events in all of Ontario. The people of Grey and Bruce counties have taken the campaign to heart. In the past 13 years, area events have raised over $2.3 million dollars! Each year it gets better and better; in some cases entire communities turn out for their community's event.
To date, the Attack has been able to raise $720.00 in personal donations, $640.00 through online pledges and an impressive $2965 raised by the Attack players for a total of $4325.00. Donations are still being accepted and can be made online at http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR/CopsforCancer/COPS_ON_even_?team_id=184080 &pg=team&fr_id=7121 or by stopping by the Attack box office to make your donation. All donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt for the 2010 tax year.
The events continue on to the evening when the Home Depot presents the Attack vs. the Erie Otters at 7:30pm. The Canadian Cancer Society will be having the first ever "Chuck-A-Puck" at the Harry Lumley Bayshore. Fans are able to purchase pucks for a charitable donation and the pucks will be thrown during the 2nd intermission.
"I'm really proud of our guys and what they have been able to accomplish." stated Attack Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Brent Fisher. Fisher went on to say that "The players pulled together and raised close to $3000.00. Roman Berdnikov raised almost $1600.00 alone and I really think that says a lot about the character of these young men and what they are willing to do for their community. From the donations, to the silent auction and the chuck-a-puck, we're talking about eight or nine thousand dollars raised in one day for a very important cause."
