Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors got some revenge on their Peel Region rivals with a 3-1 victory over the Brampton Battalion tonight at the Hershey Centre. The win improves the Majors to 40-17-4-2 on the season.

After dropping a 4-0 decision to Brampton last Friday on home-ice the Majors put together a much better effort and grabbed two points to end the regular season series with the Troops. Mississauga had several opportunities in the first period including two power play opportunities, one missed open net and David Corrente hitting the post. With less than three minutes in the first period Jordan Mayer put the Majors ahead 1-0. William Wallen left the puck for Mayer, and he fired the puck high short side to beat Patrick Killeen and give the Majors the lead after one.

The Majors continued to out chance the Battalion and Ryan Lopes put the Majors ahead by two at 10:30 of the second. David Corrente's shot from the point deflected off a Battalion defender's skate and onto the stick of Lopes who put away the easy tap-in. Mississauga increased the lead by three courtesy of Jordan Mayer, who put in his second of the night and twenty-eighth of the season, five seconds before the end of the period. Mayer parked himself in front of the net and tapped in the rebound from Blake Parlett's shot to give the Majors the commanding lead.

The Majors played the third period with their shutdown style of play, Brampton did manage to grab a goal early in the period from Sam Carrick but that's all they could produce. JP Anderson stopped 23 shots and recorded his twenty-first win of the season. Patrick Killeen made 24 saves for the Battalion and takes the loss. The Majors will now travel to Peterborough tomorrow night for a game with the Petes at 7:00. That game could be a potential first round playoff match-up. Then on Sunday the Majors will host the Sudbury Wolves at 2:00 p.m. Majors playoff tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Hershey Centre box office.
