Attack Fall to Otters 2-1 in Overtime

The Owen Sound Attack headed south of the border for their annual weekend in Erie hoping to win their 3rd in a row and extend the season series lead to 4-0. Both teams traded their captains earlier this week and looked to prove they're still dangerous teams in the Midwest.

Owen Sound began the game with the first couple shots, but Erie responded well. After Guzda managed to turn away the initial flurry, Emmet Sproule eventually solved the puzzle and put the Otters ahead 1-0. The lead wouldn't last long, and former Otter Cade Robinson made a great play to set up Jackson Doherty in front of the net. He made no mistake and the teams were tied up at 1 apiece. Each team has their chances as the period came to an end but they'd go back to their rooms 1 all with shots slightly in the Otters favour, 8-7.

The Attack began the 2nd period controlling the puck and controlling possession against the young Otters. Owen Sound did a quality job keeping chances out of their own end, holding the Otters to only one shot through the first fifteen minutes of play. Erie did well at limiting scoring chances too, and Owen Sound couldn't find the back of the net on 7 shots in the period, 14 total in the game for a 14-11 lead after two periods with the scored tied at 1.

The 3rd period was very similar to the 2nd. Neither team had great chances but Owen Sound continued to control the puck and limit opportunities for Erie to take the lead. Mack Guzda stood tall whenever chances did appear, and we were off to overtime. Shots after regulation were 24-18 in favour of the Attack. Aidan Dudas began overtime with a good chance but Dan Murphy was there for the Otters. Minutes later, Petr Cajka trickled a puck over the line for the first goal since the opening period and the Otters secured the extra point in the first meeting between the two teams this weekend, extending Erie's winning streak and snapping Owen Sound's at 2. It won't be long for the Attack to get their revenge as the two teams meet again tomorrow evening at the Erie Insurance Arena for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

The three stars of the game were swept by Erie with Emmett Sproule, Dan Murphy and Petr Cajka taking all three honours. The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game honours were won by Barret Kirwin.
