Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack were looking to bounce back from a rough start to the 2018-19 season on Saturday night when the Ottawa 67's came to town. With a back and forth game, Owen Sound held the lead 3-2 late into the third, but couldn't hold on. Ottawa came back with two goals with less than five minutes left in the game to take the win 4-2.

The game saw action right away as Tye Felhaber scored his second of the season 19 seconds into the first period to almost immediately dampen the mood at the Harry Lumley Bayshore.

At 16:45 Kevin Bahl sent his second goal of the season past Mack Guzda from the blue line to make it 2-0 Ottawa less than halfway through the first.

The Attack were quite obviously not handling the pressure from Ottawa well, and landed a penalty for too many men at 7:38. Ottawa kept the pressure but weren't able to find the back of the net with the advantage.

Nick Suzuki, back on home ice tonight for his first regular season game after being at NHL camp with the Montreal Canadiens, put the puck right past Will Cranley at 11:46 to score the first goal of the night for the Attack. The hope was back in the crowd at the Bayshore. Suzuki's goal was assisted by Kevin Hancock and Markus Phillips.

With less than 2 minutes left in the game, Quinn Yule landed a penalty for interference at 18:22 and the Attack were sent to their first powerplay of the night. Buzzer went before Owen Sound could finish the job.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal at the end of the first sat at 15 for the Attack and 7 for the 67's. The second period got underway with less action than anticipated. Little shots on goal were seen and a fairly slow play in general.

The crowd could see Owen Sound's frustration building up as things became a little rougher on the ice. We saw Suzuki get taken down just past the blue line, only to see him retaliate with a hit on the board to Ottawa.

Carter Robertson gets into a tussle with former teammate Jack Quinn as they both get sent to the box at 4:14. Robertson lands one for cross checking and Quinn for slashing, sending the game to 4 on 4 hockey.

At 8:47, Quinn got sent to the box once again, but this time for tripping, sending the Attack to another powerplay. Only 1 minute and 13 seconds later, Ottawa's Mitchell Hoelscher lands a penalty for cross checking, sending the Attack to the 2-man advantage for 47 seconds.

Jack Quinn made another huge hit on Carter Robertson, his former teammate, and the Owen Sound crowd made sure Ottawa knew they were not pleased.

Suzuki, making impressions on his return to home ice, scored his second of the night as he sniped it past Ottawa's netminder Will Cranley on the powerplay. Crowd welcomed Nick back with a huge applaud and cheers on his goal.

Cranley lost his stick in a scramble near the net, but made the save to keep it a tied game.

Period two came to an end with Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal sitting at 29 for Owen Sound, 12 for Ottawa.

The third period came almost the same as the first, but this time in favour of the Bears. Nick Suzuki found the back of the net 1:40 into the third to claim his 7th career hattrick and send the Attack to their first lead of the game.

Suzuki landed his 110th career goal with his hattrick, tying Attack alumni Joey Hishon for 6th All Time Goals in Owen Sound. The Attack franchise record for hattricks stands at 8. Nick has almost a full season to make a new record in Owen Sound.

The Attack were caught with too many men on the ice once again, and Pearson headed to the box to take the penalty at 13:01.

Ottawa couldn't use the powerplay to their advantage, but Quinn Yule found the back of the net for the first time this season at 16:10, assisted by Austen Keating and Noel Hoefenmayer.

Ottawa wasn't done there, as Noel Hoefenmayer rips one past Guzda at 17:39 to make the final score 4-2 in favour of Ottawa. Austen Keating and Nikiti Okhotyuk had the assists.

Suzuki's hattrick earned him first star honours, while Ottawa's Austen Keating earned the second star. Ottawa Netminder Will Cranley stopped 41 shots, earning him third star honours.

The Hatten Home Hardware Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Aidan Dudas, voted by the fans.

At the end of three, Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal were 44-25, in favour of Owen Sound.

The Attack are back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Sarnia Sting for a 7PM puck drop at the Harry Lumley Bayshore.
