Erie Otters News Release

ERIE, PA - The Otters returned home Saturday night after a tough game on the road to more struggles, falling 4-0 to the Kingston Frontenacs.

The Otters opened the game looking to establish an offensive presence early, after struggling Friday night in Mississauga. Showing some promise, Erie was able to outshoot the Frontenacs for the duration of the period. However, Ryan Cranford caught Daniel Murphy out of his net and put one past him to make the score 1-0 heading into the intermission.

The second stanza opened with both teams spending time in each other's zone. A one-time goal from former Otter Brett Neumann elevated the Frontenacs lead to 2-0, despite being continually outshot by the home team. The Otters followed this with a pair of power plays, but gave up a shorthanded goal to Dallas Stars prospect Jason Robertson on the first.

The third period facilitated a flurry of penalties, resulting in traded powerplay chances, as well as a short stint of 3-on-3 hockey. The Otters continued to struggle offensively, but began to show promise in the latter half of the period. Former Otter Mitch Byrne was sent off for holding with 4:58 remaining and the Otters pulled Murphy to try and cut the deficit to two. The powerplay came up short for the seventh time of the evening, and the Frontenacs quickly responded with an open net goal from Dennis Golovatchev to set the final score at 4-0. Erie will look to bounce back on Friday against the Sudbury Wolves at home at 7:00PM.
