Barrie Colts News Release
The Owen Sound Attack ended Barrie's chances of a playoff birth with a 5-1 victory Wednesday night in Owen Sound.
Barrie's back was against the wall and the fate left mostly out of their hands for the remaining three games of the season. The Colts were forced to win out and have North Bay lose out in order to make the playoffs.
Tonight's game was the first task at hand, and it was a tough test in the Owen Sound Attack who they played for the sixth and final time this season.
It was a fairly even played first half of the period, but it was Owen Sound who would open the scoring. Cade Robinson would finish off a two on one to give them the lead.
It looked like they were going to take the lead into the break, but Ben Hawerchuk had other ideas. He took a centering pass from captain Jason Willms and snapped it off the post and in past Mack Guzda with just over a minute to go in the period. Nathan Allensen assisted on Hawerchuk's 27th goal of the season.
Things would get a little nasty before the period could end, as Daylon Groulx laid a high hit on Colts' Tyler Tucker which cut him around the nose. There was no call to start, but after further discussion with the officials he was called for a penalty. So Barrie would go to the power play, but it was Owen Sound taking advantage.
Adam McMaster broke free for a breakaway and tucked in the go ahead goal with under ten seconds to go in the period for Owen Sound to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Barrie would play back on their heels as Owen Sound continued to push.
At the eight minute mark it was Manuel Aberg trickling one through the arm of Jet Greaves to extend their lead to 3-1.
Five minutes later on a power play the Attack would strike again when Cade Robinson knocked home the rebound for his 2nd of the game to bring the lead to 4-1 which they would skate into the second intermission.
The third period didn't solve much for Barrie. Owen Sound would add another to capture the 5-1 victory and end the Colts chances of making the playoffs.
Barrie will finish off their year with contests against Niagara at home on Saturday night and then Sunday afternoon in Mississauga.
