Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Atomic Pork Chops held on for a 5-4 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Sunday afternoon in front of 5,977 fans at Northwestern Medicine Field. For the third time this season, the Kane County Cougars adopted the Kane County "Atomic Pork Chops" moniker.

Sioux Falls (27-33) jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second against Atomic Pork Chops (26-32) starter Jose Fuentes (2-0). Jabari Henry worked a walk to lead off the inning, and two batters later Trevor Achenbach drove him in with an RBI triple to put the Canaries ahead by a run.

Kane County responded quickly in the bottom of the second. Jonah Davis led off the frame with a towering home run to right-center field to tie it up. It was Davis' 15th home run of the season and fourth home run of the series.

After Sioux Falls took the lead back by a run in the top of the third, the Atomic Pork Chops responded with the long ball again. In the bottom of the third, Galli Cribbs Jr. belted a solo home to right-center field. It was Cribbs first home run of the season and first home run at Northwestern Medicine Field in his career.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kane County took the lead for the first time in the ballgame. Daniel Wasinger worked a leadoff walk to get the inning started. Two batters later, Armond Upshaw blasted a two-run homer to right-center to put the Atomic Pork Chops ahead 4-2. It was Upshaw's third home run over the last two games. Kane County added one more run in the sixth, as Donivan Williams came in to score on a throwing error to make it 5-2.

After Fuentes departed the game following the fifth, Logan Nissen entered. Following a scoreless sixth, Sioux Falls chipped away at the lead with an RBI double by Ozzie Martinez to make it a 5-3 game. Daniel Bies then entered the game in the seventh and tossed 1.2 scoreless innings to keep it at a 5-3 edge.

Keith Rogalla entered the game in the ninth looking to hold on for the save. Rogalla walked Shamoy Christopher to lead off the inning, but then induced a ground ball double play. However, Martinez did damage again as he ripped a solo homer to pull the Canaries within a run. But, Rogalla got Darnell Sweeney to ground out and preserve a 5-4 Atomic Pork Chops victory.

The Cougars will have the next three days off for the American Association All-Star Break, before heading on an 11-game road trip. Kane County returns to Northwestern Medicine Field for a six-game homestand beginning on August 1. For tickets and more information call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
