Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA - Atlantic City Surf LHP Brian Rodaway improved to 3-1 on the season in a dominating, seven-inning performance over the Rox at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Saturday. The Surf offense jumped out early, and captured the second game of the series 10-3.
Spurred by a two-run home run in the second inning by SS Anthony Granato, Atlantic City scored six times on eight hits off of Rox RHP Mike McTamney who could not escape the fourth inning. McTamney departed with the bases loaded and nobody out in the fourth. Rox LHP Chris McDonough was summoned in relief. In his first appearance out of the bullpen, McDonough surrendered two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out two.
While the offense was balanced in Atlantic City's 14-hit barrage, it was the top three batters in the order distributing most of the damage. Granato, 1B Joe Burke, and C Will Plaza combined to go 8-9 with five RBI, and seven runs scored. The trio also managed five walks.
Brockton scored its only runs on LF Jud Thigpen's team-leading fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning; a three-run shot off reliever RHP Rory Shortell.
The two teams finish the series on Sunday night at 7:05 PM in Atlantic City. Brockton will attempt to avoid being swept for the second consecutive series as it sends RHP Wayne Lundgren (1-2, 4.91 ERA) to mound against Atlantic City RHP J.C. Huguet (2-0, 2.65 ERA).
