
Rapidz defeated 6-4 by Tornadoes

(OTTAWA, ON) In the second game of their three-game series, the Ottawa Rapidz were defeated 6-4 by the Worcester Tornadoes.
Pitching for the Rapidz was Ottawa native Mike Kusiewicz (0-4) who was credited with the loss. Kusiewicz pitched 7.1 innings, allowing four runs (all earned), ten hits, two walks and striking out three. For the Tornadoes, Ryan Lobban (1-0) earned the win pitching in relief for starter Eddie Pena. Lobban pitched one inning allowing no runs, hits, or walks with no strikeouts. John Birtwell earned his second consecutive save and third of the season for the Tornadoes.
The Rapidz opened the scoring, striking early in the bottom of the first. With three consecutive singles to load the bases, Jabe Bergeron continued with a single to score the first run of the game. Pete Pirman then hit another single, which cleared the bases and gave the Rapidz a 3-0 lead after one inning.
The Tornadoes responded in the top of the third with three runs to even the score. Mike MacMillan was hit by a pitch, Jeff LaHair singled and BJ Weed hit a two run double to begin the inning. Weed advanced to third on Scott Grimes' second single of the game and Alex Trezza hit a sacrifice fly to score Weed from third and tie the game at 3.
The Rapidz struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two out, Jabe Bergeron and Kyle Geiger singled to put two runners on base. Pete Pirman hit a double to drive in Bergeron and give the Rapidz a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Worcester responded with a run. Mike MacMillan led off with a single and advanced to third on a single by BJ Weed. Scott Grimes hit a sacrifice fly to score Weed and tie the game at 4.
Worcester took their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs. Rico Santana earned a walk and Omar Pena singled to end Kusiewicz's night but earning him a standing ovation from the crowd of 2,077 at Rapidz Stadium. Santana then scored from second after a Mike MacMillan double off Rapidz relief pitcher Angelo Burrows. Omar Pena advanced home from third on a passed ball, resulting in a 6-4 Worcester lead, which would hold up for the win.
The Rapidz wrap up their six game home stand and three-game series against Worcester tomorrow, Sunday, June 8 at 1:05pm. Tomorrow is "Paint the Stadium Pink" day, all fans wearing pink will have $1 donated by the Ottawa Rapidz to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. Starting for Worcester tomorrow will be Junior Guerrero (1-1) against Orlando Trias (0-3) for the Rapidz.
