Atlanta United 2 News Release
KENNESAW, Ga. - Atlanta United 2 fell 3-0 to Hartford Athletic at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Saturday night.
Hartford earned a penalty in the 31st minute after Efraín Morales brought down Andre Lewis in the box. Corey Hertzog took his penalty shot down the middle and ATL UTD 2 goalkeeper Justin Garces dove to his right, saving the shot with his left foot.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 42nd minute through Luka Prpa. A loose ball bounced around the Atlanta penalty area before falling to Logan Gdula, which the defender volleyed toward net. Gdula's effort hit off captain Tom Brewitt and into the feet of Prpa, who took a touch before finding the back of the net with his left foot.
Joel Johnson doubled Hartford's advantage in the 75th minute. Prince Saydee moved with the ball down the left wing and laid off a pass for Lewis, who found Rashawn Dally on the right side of the Atlanta box. Dally played a one-touch pass for Johnson, who put his left boot through a shot that Garces got a palm to but was unable to keep out of the net.
The third and final goal for Hartford came in the 80th minute. Rashawn Dally powered a shot toward Garces and the Atlanta goalkeeper made a reaction save; however, Brewitt swept up the rebound and touched the opportunity into the goal.
ATL UTD 2 (3-11-1, 10 points) returns to action Saturday, June 25 in Oakland, California at Laney College Football Stadium against Oakland Roots (10:30 p.m., ESPN+).
