Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
On how RGV FC matched up overall against Pittsburgh tonight...
"Well, we had minutes where we pressured them and created some options to show that we needed to go after them. It was a good first half for us, we were able to score a good goal. In the second half, everything we tried to do seemed to go the opposite way. We could not control the ball well, there were missed kicks, it was difficult. They were good as an experienced team. They made a lot of changes and so did we to our scheme, but at the end of the day we were able to contain them, which is something that we have not done since April, keep a clean sheet. For us it was important; three points that we needed, at home, and we did not get scored on. I am happy with the result, and we have a couple of days to regroup and improve on the things that did not go well in the second half. Right now, if we talk about the defense, we were very solid. Javier [Garcia] got the clean sheet and the defense was solid for him, which is important for all of us."
On the key focus moving into another tough matchup in a short span of time...
"It is going to be another tough match for us facing New Mexico, in the altitude and a stadium that is a bit different. They play in a baseball specific stadium so that is unique. We need to adjust well, every game for us is going to be like a final. We have a young team, very young team, as you could see in comparison to Pittsburgh, they were men, older, and we were kids. That is the beauty of the game, and we were able to contain them. We need to take all of this momentum into Wednesday in order for us to build on the needed result."
RGV FC GK Javier Garcia
On keeping a clean sheet in his second career start...
"Obviously I am very excited because having these opportunities is unique. Playing this game, from the start, I had to be concentrated, I had to be looking toward achieving our goal. We did it, we got our win. We got a clean sheet, and obviously it felt great with how the team did and how everything went well defensively for us."
On making a home start in front of family and friends as a local kid and performing well...
"It boosted my confidence a lot because I know that a lot of my family members always wanted to see me play professionally, I had signed professionally but, the only thing left now was to play. Seeing them here and seeing them be very excited watching me play on field obviously motivated me. I want to keep making them proud!
RGV FC FW Ricky Ruiz
On the goal and the ability to open the field well with crosses such as the one from the goal play...
"First of all, I do want to say that it was a perfectly placed ball by Luka [Malesevic]. I know that he gets some criticism for some services but, that ball could not be any better. As that ball came, it was about timing; it was me and Adolfo [Hernandez] inside the box so our job was to be at the end of it. Fortunately, it was me and I was able to put it on goal and in the back of the net."
