Atlanta Sends Farkas to Wolves

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned center JEFF FARKAS to the Chicago Wolves.

FARKAS, who was acquired by the Thrashers from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for center CHRIS HERPERGER and right wing CHRIS NIELSEN, has notched 25 points (11G, 14A) in 39 games with the Manitoba Moose this season.

The Amherst, Mass., native was the Toronto Maple Leafs' first choice (57th overall) in the 1997 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He was scoreless in two games with the Maple Leafs in the 2000 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Overall, FARKAS notched two assists and six penalty minutes in eight regular-season games with the Maple Leafs before being traded to the Canucks for Josh Holden on June 23, 2002.

FARKAS, who turns 25 on Friday, recorded 190 points (88G, 102A) in 159 games at Boston College from 1996 to 2000. He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and was named to the Hockey East First All-Star Team in 1999-2000. In addition, he was selected to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team in 2000.

FARKAS played for Team USA at the 1998 World Junior Championships, pacing all players with 10 points (6G, 4A) in seven games.

The 22-year-old NIELSEN registered four goals, seven assists and 11 points in 37 games with the Wolves and the Syracuse Crunch this season.

HERPERGER, who posted one goal and one assist in seven games with Chicago this season, notched four goals and five points in 27 games with the Thrashers.
