
Surovy Added to PlanetUSA All-Star Team

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins left wing Tomas Surovy has been added to the PlanetUSA All-Star roster for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic. Surovy replaces Milan Kraft, who remains on recall to the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.
Surovy, 21, has recorded 29 points (13+16) in 26 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. He ranks among the team leaders in goals (tied for first), game-winning goals (first with three), power play goals (tied for second with six), shots (second with 102), points (third) and assists (fourth). He missed the first six weeks of the season due to injury.
The 6'1", 204-pound native of Banska Bystrica, Slovakia recorded 33 points (23+10) in 65 games last season as a rookie.
Surovy was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine, home of the AHL's Portland Pirates. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 2, with the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 8:00 p.m. ET, and concludes with the annual All-Star Game at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3. The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be televised to 60 million households on 15 regional television partners in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet nationally in Canada.
Surovy and the Penguins (19-19-2-3, 43 points; fourth-place, South Division) host the Hershey Bears (21-14-8-1, 51 points; second-place, South Division) tonight at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
Approximately 102 tickets are still available for tonight's game against the Bears. Tickets can be purchased at the First Union Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations and telephone outlets.
