Atlanta Dream News Release
ATLANTA, May 16, 2012 - The Atlanta Dream finalized its 11-player roster today, waiving guard Coco Miller and temporarily suspending center Erika de Souza. De Souza, a member of Brazil's national team, will report to the Dream after the 2012 Olympics.
The temporary suspension of de Souza, along with the waiver of Miller, sets the Dream's roster heading into the season opener at Indiana on May 19. Once de Souza returns, the Dream will boast all five starters from last year's Eastern Conference championship team. The roster also features two 2012 Olympians as All-Star forward Angel McCoughtry will represent the United States in London.
"We are excited about the team we have in place with the addition of a few key newcomers joining our core group of returning players," said Atlanta Dream Head Coach and General Manager Marynell Meadors. "We were faced with some very difficult decisions, including the waiver of Coco Miller who has been a tremendous contributor to our team for the past three seasons. This year's training camp was very competitive and we are looking forward to carrying that into the 2012 season."
The 2012 roster includes five newcomers and the return of center Yelena Leuchanka. Leuchanka did not play in the WNBA last year due to commitments to the Belarus national team. The newcomers include rookies Tiffany Hayes and Aneika Henry, and free agent signees Laurie Koehn, Cathrine Kraayeveld and Ketia Swanier.
The Atlanta Dream tips off its fifth season this summer at Philips Arena as part of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Dream, the defending two-time, back-to-back Eastern Conference Champion, opens its regular season home schedule on May 25 against the New York Liberty at 7:30 p.m. Single game, group and season tickets are on sale now.
