Atlanta Braves' 3B Chris Johnson Set to Rehab with Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, announced today that Atlanta third baseman Chris Johnson is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Gwinnett on Monday, May 25. That night, the G-Braves host Lehigh Valley for the opener of a four-game series at Coolray Field. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.

Johnson, 30, has been on Atlanta's 15-day disabled list since May 1 with a fractured left hand. Prior to suffering the injury on April 30 vs. Cincinnati, he batted .279 (12-for-43) with four doubles, five runs scored, five RBIs and one stolen base in 16 games for the Braves. He is the first Atlanta player set to rehab with Gwinnett this season.

Acquired by Atlanta via trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks on January 24, 2013, Johnson has batted .290 (330-for-1,139) with 65 doubles, 22 home runs, 102 runs scored, 131 RBIs and seven stolen bases over 311 games with the Braves during the last three seasons. In a seven-year Major League career that includes time with Houston (2009-12) and Arizona (2012), Johnson is batting .283 (669-for-2,368) with 136 doubles, 10 triples, 55 home runs, 223 runs scored, 302 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 659 games.

Johnson will join the G-Braves for the first time on his rehab stint. It will be his first appearance with a Minor League club since 2011, when he played 21 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City (Houston Astros).
