COLUMBUS, OH -The Gwinnett Braves (19-24) beat the Columbus Clippers (24-19) by a 6-1 score Saturday night in game three of the four-game series at Huntington Park.
Pitching led the way for the G-Braves as starter Manny Banuelos and three relievers combined to scatter four hits, allow one run and strike out 10 in the win.
For the third night in a row, Eury Perez led the early charge to get Gwinnett on the board first. Perez led off the game with a deep double to left off Columbus starting pitcher Jordan Cooper. After one out, Cedric Hunter doubled off the wall in right-center, scoring Perez for a 1-0 lead.
The Gwinnett lead increased to 2-0 in the top of the third when Perez led off the inning with a solo home run to left, his second blast of the season.
The G-Braves' big inning would come in the top of the fourth as Sean Kazmar, Wil Nieves and Daniel Castro each singled to load the bases against Cooper with none out. Mycal Jones walked, pushing across Kazmar for a 3-0 lead. With one out, Perez knocked in Nieves from third with a sacrifice fly to right, making it 4-0. After walking Jose Peraza to re-load the bases, Cooper was pulled in favor of right-hander Jeff Manship from the bullpen. Hunter greeted him with a single into shallow center, scoring both Castro and Jones for a 6-0 lead.
