
Astros Purchase Contract of Matranga

New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Metairie, LA â The New Orleans Zephyrs, the class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros are pleased to announce that the Astros have purchased the contract of Zephyrs infielder David Matranga. To make room on the roster for Matranga, the Astros have designated infielder Julio Lugo for assignment.
Matranga was a sixth-round selection of the Astros in the June 1998 draft, and hit .273 (82x300) with seven home runs and 40 RBI in 101 games for New Orleans in 2002. The 26-year old Matranga was hitting .217 (10x46) with three RBI in 18 games for the Zephyrs in 2003. Lugo, 27, hit .246 (16x65) with one home run and six RBI in 22 games for the Astros this season.
