Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson pounded out 17 hits Thursday afternoon on the way to a 10-3 win over the Salt Lake Stingers at Franklin Covey Field. The game was played in front of 15,801 children with a scheduled 10:30 a.m. start. The game began an hour late due to wet field conditions.

Doug DeVore led the charge with four hits and three RBI including a long two run homer in the eighth. Willie Morales and Alex Cintron each added three hits. The win was the Sidewinders third straight victory over the Stingers and allowed Tucson to win the series three games to one.

John Patterson earned the winning, allowing three runs, two earned in 5.2 innings of work. Scott Service picked up his third save.

Tucson scored first in the fifth inning when Luis Terrero singled and scored on a double off the right field wall from Brian Gordon. The Stingers responded with a three-run fifth inning to chase Patterson. Robb Quinlan's two-run single put Salt Lake ahead 3-1.

The lead was short lived because Tucson answered with three runs in the top of the sixth. Steve Neal's ground out put the Sidewinders back in front 4-3.

DeVore provided some insurance in the 8th with a two-run homer off the scoreboard in right field. The Sidewinders added four runs in the ninth to reach double digits.

Tucson improved to 12-16. The Sidewinders will travel to Edmonton Friday to play a four-game, three-day series. Friday's game will begin at 6:05 p.m. Tucson time. The Sidewinders will use a spot starter to replace Brandon Webb who will pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Troy Mattes will make his first start for Edmonton. The Sidewinders will play a single game Saturday afternoon in Edmonton followed by a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
