Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ – The Sidewinders have invited kindergarten through eighth grade students from schools all around Southern Arizona to D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Day on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:10 a.m. vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes. The Sidewinders have already confirmed reservations and bought tickets for almost 6,000 local kids.

D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education and G.R.E.A.T., short for Gang Resistance Education and Training, are two nationwide programs taught in schools and sponsored by local law enforcement agencies. D.A.R.E. teaches kids how to recognize and resist the pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco and drugs. G.R.E.A.T. advocates non-violence by teaching kids how to develop positive attitudes toward police officers, avoid conflicts and peer pressure, be responsible, and set positive goals.

As part of the D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Day festivities, students will interact with teachers and the Tucson Police Departments and other law enforcement during on-field activities. SWAT Team members will be on hand, and a SWAT tank and equipment van will be on display outside Tucson Electric Park for students to climb in and explore. Additionally, a K9 police dog demonstration is scheduled and D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. t-shirts will be thrown into the stands.

The early start time was designed to accommodate as many schools' schedules as possible. The 10:10 a.m. start makes Wednesday's game the second of only two matinee games this season.

Schools still needing to RSVP can do so by contacting Sidewinders Director of Community Relations Sergio Pedroza at 520-434-1021 or via email at sergio@tucsonsidewinders.com.

The game will start at 10:10 a.m. with gates opening at 8:30 a.m. For more information on D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Day, the Tucson Sidewinders, ticket plans, merchandise or sponsorship opportunities please call 520-434-1021 or visit www.tucsonsidewinders.com.
