Asheville Tourists News Release
GREENVILLE - It took ten innings on Saturday night for the Asheville Tourists to escape Greenville with a 4-3 win and a series victory over their South Atlantic League rivals. The Tourists forced extras after the Drive managed to take the lead late and a tenth inning sacrifice fly proved to be the game-winner.
Nick Kennedy made his second straight tremendous start for Asheville. The left-hander pitched six shutout innings and allowed only four hits. Unfortunately, Kennedy did not factor in the decision.
The Tourists jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Bret Boswell hit a lead off triple and Ryan Vilade's sacrifice fly plated Boswell. That stood as the game's only run until the bottom of the seventh. Greenville scored three runs in their half of the seventh inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Asheville roared back in the top of the eight to score two runs. Chad Spanberger hit a sacrifice fly and Taylor Snyder knocked in the game-tying run with a single into left. It was Snyder who came through again in the tenth with a deep sac fly to centerfield scoring Sean Bouchard.
Robert Tyler picked up the save by pitching a scoreless bottom of the tenth and Tommy Doyle notched the win by holding Greenville off the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth. Snyder finished 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Snyder has eight hits in his last nine at-bats.
Asheville will entertain the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch slated for 4:05pm.
