Hickory, NC - The Crawdads rallied for four late runs but ultimately fell to the West Virginia Power 8-6 on Saturday night. The 'Dads strung together eleven hits in the loss.
Righty AJ Alexy got the start for the 'Dads in the series finale against the Power. The Power took an early 1-0 lead, scoring a run in the top of the first inning.
The 'Dads bats surged back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. Pedro Gonzalez singled to right and advanced to second on a single by Ryan Dorow. A wild pitch allowed Gonzalez to advance to third base. Yohel Pozo hit the 'Dads third straight single to bring in the tying run.
The Power reclaimed the lead in the top of the second, scoring an unearned run off Alexy that brought the score to 2-1. Alexy shut them down in the third and fourth inning but yielded a three-run homerun in the fifth. He finished the night with five innings, six hits, four earned runs (five total runs), a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
The 'Dads sparked back with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Tyreque Reed singled to start off the inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and reached third on a line out by Sam Huff. Reed came in to score as Kole Enright grounded out to the second baseman.
The Power scored an unearned run off 'Dads reliever Tyler Ferguson that made the score 6-2 after six innings.
Pozo got the 'Dads a run closer with a homerun to lead off the bottom half of the seventh. The rally continued as Reed singled before Huff sent a ball over the right field fence for his team-leading eighth homerun of the season.
They cut the deficit to just one run as Bubba Thompson walked and both Dorow and Jacobs singled to bring him around to score.
The Power hit a homerun in the top of the ninth to give them a two-run lead that would hold up in the bottom of the ninth.
The Crawdads will start a new series tomorrow night as the Augusta GreenJackets come to town for their only visit of the season. During tomorrow's game, 'Dads mascots Conrad and Candy will be tying the knot in an on-field wedding ceremony. Mascots from around the area will be in attendance to watch the beloved mascots get married.
