Armstrong Named SAL Strength Coach of the Year

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds, class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to announce that first-year Strength and Conditioning Coach Pat Armstrong was named the 2011 South Atlantic League Strength Coach of the Year on Tuesday. The award was voting upon by the other 13 strength coach's in the league.

Armstrong is in his second year in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Last season, he served in the same capacity for the Bluefield Orioles.

"I'm honored to receive this award and I truly view it as a direct reflection of the athletes that Will Lawhorn and I have worked with this season," said Armstrong. "I look forward to continuing my work with the athletes during the remainder of the year and into the off season."

Armstrong is responsible for the overall physical strength of the players. He is in charge of conditioning players before and after games and monitoring each players strength maintenance over the course of the season.

"Pat has been instrumental in keeping our players healthy throughout the 2011 season," said Shorebirds Athletic Trainer Will Lawhorn. "He has been diligent in ensuring that the players are getting their work done in the weight room and that is critical in keeping them on the field."

The 24-year old worked with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League during the summers of 2007 and 2008.

Armstrong is from Harwich Port, Massachusetts which is located on Cape Cod. He graduated with a degree In Athletic Training from Springfield College.

The Delmarva Shorebirds play game three against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday, August 24 at 7:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher David Baker is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds. He will be opposed by Lakewood left-hander Jesse Biddle.
