Springfield Armor News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - In a special tribute to those that put their lives on the line each and every day to keep the us safe, the Springfield Armor, presented by MGM Springfield, will wear special police and firefighter tribute jerseys on Saturday, February 8 as a part of Health & Safety Night at the MassMutual Center, presented by Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan.
The jerseys (pictured below) will include the insignias of the Springfield Police and Fire Departments as well as the HealthNet Plan teal blue in the jersey's lettering. During the 7:00 p.m. game against the Canton Charge, the jerseys will be auctioned off as a part of a silent auction and raffle geared toward raising money for Open Pantry Teen Parent Program.
Open Pantry Community Services, inc. has been operating its Teen Parent Program (TPP) since 1995 as a residential program designed to assist teen parents in accessing resources, both their own inner resources and those supportive services available in the community. The Teen Parent Program is aimed at assisting teenage parents, and their children, who are pregnant and/or parenting and in need of a safe place to live.
Also included in the auction and raffle will be an array of Armor signed and game-used memorabilia as well as donations from local businesses.
Police and fire vehicles from both the Springfield Police Department and the Springfield Fire Department will be on-hand. Several health and safety activities will take place on the concourse featuring retina scans, bike helmet fitting, child ID kits and more!
During the game, the Armor will honor the night with an on-court recognition to unveil the proclamation signed by Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno officially deeming February 8 as Health and Safety Day.
The Armor return to action on Friday, January 31 when Springfield hosts the Erie BayHawks at 7:00 p.m. inside the MassMutual Center. The night will also include Steal's Birthday Bash as the Armor celebrate the fifth birthday of their beloved mascot, Steal! The celebration will feature Steal and several of his mascot friends, a few hijinks throughout the night, special video tributes to Steal and, of course, birthday cake!
